At the beginning of this season the Dolphin entered 2 strong teams into the David Cornwall U30 two rink triples. Both had their first rounds conceded to them and in the 2nd round we played 5 Rivers and Bannister Park. Sadly, the team playing 5 Rivers, Oli Thake, Catherine Solway, Aimee Torrevelle, Tom Poore, Zoe Torrevelle and Emma Langridge, lost by a narrow margin in a game played at the Dolphin.
The team playing Bannister Park Antony Hobby, Oli Kenway, Millie Tuck, Rebecca Cresswell, Alex Dytham and Nathan Wood (one rink home and one rink away). The home rink struggled initially but pulled it together towards the end. Meanwhile, the away rink took an early lead which they held onto winning the match overall 38 – 20.
The next game was against the 5 Rivers team that had beaten the other Dolphin team in the previous round. In a role reversal the home team took a healthy lead, where the away team went behind but managed to come good at the end of the game, picking up 2 shots on the last end to win the match overall. The home rink waited anxiously to hear the result of the last end…. When it came through, they were overjoyed Dolphin 41 – 40 Five Rivers. Phew, onward and upward.
On the 5th February the match against Plymouth for a place in the semi final at Nottingham took place at Taunton Deane. Each rink held their nerve and played some good bowls against formidable opposition. The game was always tight, but Dolphin held the upper hand throughout, finally winning the match by 5 shots overall. 40 -35.
Congratulations and good luck in Nottingham on April 2nd.
The team would like to thank the Dolphin and the Academy for their continued support and backing and hope to continue their success in Nottingham.
