We are only a young Youth Section compared to some of the others in Dorset, as we started in 2021, although our Coaches have been working with the Academy, for several years.
Our Youth Training at present takes place on Sunday mornings between 10.00 and 11.30, we have this season six members. We start with a short exercise a different one each week, which they all take part in, then any new members continue with exercises to improve their delivery and line. The more experienced work on head reading etc., this then is followed by a short break for drinks and biscuits. We finish the morning with matches between all the Members, to help develop their match skills.

Although we are a young section, we have one successful member who started with us in 2021. He was invited to join the Academy in 2022, since then he has worked hard, and in his first competition he won a pairs trophy with another young boy he did not know, since then he helped the Dolphin IBC win a Youth Competition against Bristol IBC, which is held yearly.

WEST MOORS MEMORIAL BOWLS CLUB
Station Road
West Moors
Dorset
BH22 0HZ
Our Junior section was formed in April 2018 and currently has 16 youngsters from the age of 6 to 17, many of whom have been with us from the start. We meet every Wednesday during the summer season from 4.30pm to 6.00pm and during the winter offer them the opportunity to play Short Mat bowls in our spacious club house.

We are lucky to have both qualified coaches and some willing volunteers to help each week with teaching our Juniors not just bowling skills, but also how they should conduct themselves on the green with proper etiquette and understanding of the rules.

We encourage them to challenge themselves by entering county competitions and Dorset Youth Academy organised events where they have enjoyed some success which bodes well for the future. We also run our own internal competitions which include a final played during our club’s adult finals weekend which gives them an opportunity to show just how good they are.
