DYBA Match report for June 2024

June was a busy month for the members of the Dorset Youth Bowls Academy with 3 matches against Wimborne, Kings Park and Swanage on the 9th, 23rd and 30th respectively. Unfortunately for Swanage the old adage of practice makes perfect, although perfect may be stretching things a bit far, with the youngsters playing extremely well across all 4 rinks.

Wimborne v DYBA

Matthew, Smaranda and Martha held their collect nerve picking up 3 shots in the last 2 ends to win 14-13 in a match which was always very close with neither team being more than 3 shots ahead and the lead swapping several times. Daria’s rink was the last to finish and they treated the gather players to tight last end with shot swapping with almost every bowl. Only the Wimborne skip knows if his last bowl was inspired or not, he is not saying, to win his rink by 1 shot.

Kings Park v DYBA

The Academy bowlers showed their collective resilience in this match with all triples having a stronger second half of the match than the first. This was especially obvious on Daria, Marc and Molly’s rink who were 7 shots behind at the halfway stage but pulled back exceptionally well and scored a single on the last end to earn a well deserved draw.

Swanage v DYBA

The sun shone and so did the Academy bowlers on the annual trip to Swanage. It took the youngsters several ends to master the green with the match being tied at 30-30 after 7 ends but then things changed. Over the next 8 ends they showed their true potential and played some excellent shots and out scored their hosts by 33 to 17 shots running out 63-47 winners.

Congratulations to Tom, Lucie, Daria, Hannah, Owen, Molly, Silvia, Marc,Theodora, Smaranda, Luc, Martha, Zach and Matthew on a great months bowling.

Thank you to the clubs and club members for hosting these matches and the encouragement given to the DYBA and the bowlers of the future.
