DYBA 18's and U12's Tournament - 31st July 2023

This annual tournament which was held at Poole Park Bowls Club on 31st July was almost a casualty of the English weather but luck was with the organisers and it went ahead under grey skies and, mainly, between the rain showers. The youngsters were split into groups within their age groups and played a “round robin” competition to decide the winners and they progressed into the final stages of the singles competition. The remaining bowlers proceeded into the pairs competitions still within their age groups.

In the U18’s singles Daria, Ollie and Leo progressed to the final with the winner being decided on a “round robin” with each bowler winning 1 match and losing one match, meaning the winner was decided on shot difference. Daria was the winner in a very close, exciting and tense competition with Leo as runner-up.

In the U18’s pairs Matthew and Owen were victorious after some close matches where many matches were decided by a single shot. Smaranda and Max were the runners-up.

The U12’s singles was an all boy affair after being dominated by girls in the last 2 years with Hadley, Bleu and Austin playing off to find the winner. Hadley was victorious but was pushed all the way by Austin who lost to him by 1 shot.

In the U12’s pairs final Max and Jack faced Lucie and Josh. With most of the ends being won by a single shot Max and Jack held it together to win by 2 shots.

When all the matches were completed the trophies were presented by the David King-Taylor, Bowls England Senior Vice President, who had travelled to Dorset from the Midlands. Thank you David.

The DYBA are indebted to Poole Park Bowls Club for making the facilities available and providing refreshments.
