Academy girls at Leamington

Dorset were represented by 3 female members of the Dorset Youth Bowls Academy in the U25 ladies singles and U25 ladies pairs competitions. In the U25 singles Emma Langridge was the first on the green with her brand new bowls, don’t ask Mike about that.

She played well against a young lady from Lancashire and was through to the next round. Up next was MillIe Tuck with a tough draw facing Katy Smith who had, a couples of days before, won the Ladies Pairs with her sister. Although MillIe put up a good battle it was not her day. Soon after Millie’s match, Emma was back in action against an opponent from Cambridgeshire. A close match saw Emma win 21-19 to reach the last 8.

The next day saw the start of the U25 Ladies Pairs with Catherine Solway partnering Rebecca Cresswell but before their match Emma was back in action. On a very tricky rink Emma was matched with Alice Lovett from Hampshire who found the green to her liking and she progressed in the competition where she finished as the eventual runner-up.

In the Pairs competition Catherine and Rebecca met a strong Berkshire pair in their 1st round match and held their nerve to win 18-15. On paper their next round match looked easier but this is bowls. Their last 16 opponents were from Durham and played well in the opening ends but the experience Dorset pair won 22-11. The last 8 beckoned and the opposition was bound to be stronger and yes it was in the shape of Devons Nicole Rogers and Emma Cooper. In the end the all round skills and vast experience of Devons pair put an end to Dorset’s hopes. Nicole and Emma were beaten in the final.

The girls did the Dorset Youth Bowls Academy proud.
