Dorset Academy v Somerset U18’s Friendly - 30/05/2021

On Sunday 30th May we finally got back to some competitive bowling, with they Academy hosting a challenge match against Somerset at Blandford Bowls club.

After ins and outs, as well as a few shaking it all about, we finally ended up with three triples games vs Somerset, and and exhibition singles match consisting of two Academy players [Matthew and Max]. playing an exhibition singles match which was strongly contested by both players with Max finally pipping Matthew to the post by 2 shots. Well done to both players.

In the most glorious sunshine, great bowls were played by both teams. At the midway point Somerset had their noses ahead, winning on two rinks whilst one Dorset rink (consisting of Marc, Millie and Oliver) had forged ahead, with all three rinks putting in a solid performances.

During the second half of the game Oliver’s rink capitalised on their good start, resulting in a fine win on their rink. Liam, Ryan and Nathan were up against a very strong team, but despite this, battled to the end and picked up some valuable shots towards the end of the game, keeping Dorset in with a chance to win overall. Emma, Will and James were very evenly matched with their opponents, with Emma giving them a fantastic start on most ends. They were the last rink to finish and needed 3 shots to tie the match and 4 to win. Dorset played a strong end, and were holding three crucial shots but, unfortunately for Dorset, an excellent bowl was played by the Somerset skip, leaving James with a difficult shot to play with his last bowl, needing to move the jack in order to pick up the points needed. Sadly, it was not to be and Dorset lost the match by 5 shots.

Well done to players from both teams. It was great to see some fantastic bowling and the improvement in the team play as the match went on.

Bring on the next games!
